A couple of months ago I wrote an entry about how I was growing to hate netflix, but I never got around to posting it for a number of reasons, including lazyness and an odd feeling of embarrassment.
The problems I had with their service have subsided so instead of red faced aggravation, there is merely semi-indifference to an imperfect system. Although that indifference is occasionally marked with mild confusion such as with their recommendation system. Amoung the documentaries and old British shows I've been renting there have been two anime cosas:
Steamboy-a steampunk boy adventure movie
Planetes Vol.1*-a "hard" science fiction series, also very "boy."
So it was no surprise that a couple of anime titles showed up as recommended, except that they were:
CardCapture Sakura-a young girl with magic abilities series
Kaleido Star-a girl runs of to join a Cirque Du Solei type circus.
Thanks to my friend K, I've seen a couple of episodes of Sakura, and to be honest except for Sakura's older brother and his boyfriend, I'm not really that interested. K has told me that she was suprised that Kaleido was good, but she also warned me that she thought it was probably to girly for me, which considering my tastes means it must waaay girly.
I guess there's no real point to all of this other than I find it a little odd to recommend cute girl series based a patern that so far has been strictly "boy."
*if I find some free time I may try to write about my initially negative reaction to Planetes.
